Emily, an old friend of mine, showed me around Santa Fe a couple of weeks ago and we ended up in Nambé Pueblo (after a delicious breakfast at Tesuque Village Market) underneath a waterfall. We waded around, met some local kids, and I tried out my brand new camera (and quickly regretted not bringing any lighting gear with me – she’s an awesome model).

A wedding portrait taken in the installation of "You Who Are Getting Obliterated in the Dancing Swarm of Fireflies," by Yayoi Kusama.
This was a breathtaking room to shoot in, It was difficult to hide the flash and my reflection in all of the mirrors, and I didn’t want the fireflies to swarm too much and make the shot look like an outtake from an ’80s video game film.

Thursday, February 18th, 2010Another set of two similar-but-not-similar photos from my journey around San Francisco the other day – this time, both are of a very kind woman on BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) who allowed me to take her picture. Again, the difference between these shots boggles my mind and (I hope) makes me much more careful in terms of portrait timing. Each communicates a whole different feel – and all because of a slightly different body angle and miniscule expression change.
