The bride got ready at the home of a bridesmaid and friend since childhood in San Francisco.

Shoes, clutch, and garter belt.

Rhonda's mom helped her put on her bridal jewelry in an upstairs room with beautiful window light.

I love the photo of the bride and bridesmaids coming down the stairs - such a picturesque home to shoot in.

We went to the backyard to take some bridal party portraits. They have a fun, tropical feel - even though we were in a San Francisco backyard.
Rhonda and Mike were married January 16, 2011 at St. Teresa of Avila, a Catholic church in the Potrero Hill neighborhood of San Francisco.

Erin's bridesmaids and junior bridesmaids all wore adorable hand-decorated shirts for hair and makeup; that's Erin rewriting her vows on the right.

Did I mention that Erin's a graphic designer? She put together such a beautiful purple folding wedding invitation!

Erin's dress, shoes, and accessories. I wanted to give these a desert-meets-hollywood look.

This isn't the engagement ring, but I really loved it and the way it fit into the colors of the wedding day.

Erin and Tyson were married on January 15, 2011 at a private estate in Cave Creek, AZ. Erin was a classmate of mine through middle and high school, at Creekside Middle School and Rancho Cotate High School in Rohnert Park, CA.

I was in Arizona to photograph a wedding last Saturday, and had time to do a Scottsdale engagement shoot that morning.

We met at Scottsdale Civic Center Plaza early in the morning to take advantage of some glorious light, architecture, and sculpture.

Milana and Neven are getting married in early February in Phoenix.

Scottsdale is a great location for engagement shoots - it's such a beautiful city. I used to shoot for the Scottsdale Downtowner and loved it.

The morning light was streaming in brilliantly.
Milana and Neven are getting married next month in Phoenix, AZ, and asked me to take some engagement photos.

Jeremy and Joanna live in Santa Monica, but they were in Oakland for the holidays, so we put together an engagement shoot.

We chose Piedmont Park for our first location - it's in the heart of Piedmont, in Oakland.

The park's a great engagement photo location - it surrounds a creek, and has a tremendous variety of wildlife.

I have known Jeremy and Joanna for a while, and wanted to show their personalities a little with this shoot.

We found out when we arrived that there's a tea garden at Piedmont Park, but it was closed, so I couldn't do another tea garden engagement shoot. We still did our best.
Joanna and Jeremy are getting married this fall in Petaluma, my hometown. I have know both of them for a long time, and we decided to get together in Oakland for an engagement shoot during the holidays.

Natalie got ready bright and early at her beautiful apartment in downtown Petaluma.

We snuck out while the other girls were getting hair and makeup done for some photos with the dress in the wintry sunrise light.

Natalie had everything very well organized, and I couldn't have asked for a cuter place to shoot bridal preparations.

The groom and his men got ready at the Sheraton, on the water at the south end of Petaluma.

I've been shooting preparations with the 85mm 1.8 lately, when space allows. It's a terrific lens with blazing fast autofocus.
Natalie and Jordan were married on December 4, 2010 at Calvary Chapel Petaluma.

Meet Rhonda and Mike. We decided to do a Japanese Tea Garden engagement shoot.

The Japanese Tea Garden is located within Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.

We went in and headed right for the small tea cafe in the heart of the garden.

I'm working on a different, quieter approach to engagement shoots. They are challenging but rewarding.

The garden is positively teeming with great places to shoot - if you're ever in the area, I recommend a visit.
Rhonda and Mike are getting married early next year at St. Teresa of Avila, on Potrero Hill in San Francisco. They live in the city, so we met at Golden Gate Park on a cool, crisp November Sunday to do an engagement shoot.

Last week, my friend Afreen hosted a mushroom salon at her gorgeous, newly remodeled home in San Francisco.

Far West Fungi owners John and Toby Garrone brought a fantastic variety of mushrooms and guided the salon attendees through the mushroom cultivation process.

That's the Bear's Head (aka Lion's Mane) on the left, and Oyster mushrooms on the right.

I used to hate mushrooms as a kid, except on pizza. I never pictured myself at a mushroom salon, but the event was incredible.

That's Afreen at the center, speaking to owner Toby Garrone on the far right.
Afreen Wahab, of Cuisine Afreen, held a mushroom salon – an evening of mushroom discovery, cooking, and tasting, in her home in San Francisco last week. Far West Fungi owners John and Toby Garrone brought boxes of mushrooms, Afreen cooked, and we all enjoyed conversation and a glass or two of well paired wine.

I've got a friend who is part rabid Suns fan, part entrepreneur. This is what happens when you bring those together.
That’s Brendan on the left, and Nicole on the right. I shot this while I was waiting for one of the models for the Bike Saviours calendar shoot (here’s a link: http://tempecycles.wordpress.com/2010/10/24/behind-the-scenes-of-the-bike-saviours-calendar-shoot/) to show up. The Laker Hater shirt website will be up later this week – check back for a link!

Melissa is an old friend of mine from high school, she actually assisted me on a Santa Rosa engagement shoot a few months ago - so she has seen how I work!

Melissa met Burleigh through work - both of them are Peet's coffee managers!

We met up at Point Reyes Station, a small town at the tip of Tomales Bay, but decided to shoot on a beach somewhere up the peninsula.

Heart's Desire beach is midway up the Tomales Bay side of Point Reyes, and was virtually empty by the time we pulled up, just before sunset.

The weather was unbelieveable - we had sweaters and jackets, but didn't need them.
Melissa and Burleigh were flexible about an engagement shoot location – they just wanted something in Sonoma County, where I grew up. We headed out to Point Reyes one evening last week and took some photos.

Mise en place.

We started in the kitchen of Natalie lovely downtown Petaluma home.

I couldn't get over the kitchen and the nook - such a wonderful place to shoot!

We paused for the peppers to cook.

Toasts, cheese, and a front porch smile.
Natalie and Jordan are getting married in December in Petaluma. They planned out a foodie engagement shoot – a simple picnic at the park across the street from Natalie’s home downtown, followed by a walk through Petaluma. I’ve been blessed to have two engagement shoots in a row in my hometown, and I’m looking forward to many more.
