I've got a friend who is part rabid Suns fan, part entrepreneur. This is what happens when you bring those together.
That’s Brendan on the left, and Nicole on the right. I shot this while I was waiting for one of the models for the Bike Saviours calendar shoot (here’s a link: http://tempecycles.wordpress.com/2010/10/24/behind-the-scenes-of-the-bike-saviours-calendar-shoot/) to show up. The Laker Hater shirt website will be up later this week – check back for a link!

Jamie
This is my favorite headshot – taken just a couple of weeks ago in an Oakland backyard. It’s for a friend of my girlfriend, and we decided to keep the lighting clean and simple, and go for an expression that communicates professionalism and strength. I’d love to hear what you think of it.

Emily, an old friend of mine, showed me around Santa Fe a couple of weeks ago and we ended up in Nambé Pueblo (after a delicious breakfast at Tesuque Village Market) underneath a waterfall. We waded around, met some local kids, and I tried out my brand new camera (and quickly regretted not bringing any lighting gear with me – she’s an awesome model).

Portraits of a friend of mine.
I volunteered to do some senior portraits for a friend of mine while I was in Tempe for a few spring training games and a wedding. It was nice to put the camera down and watch some baseball with my brother – Arizona’s beautiful this time of year. I’ve got three Phoenix friends getting married in the next two months and I can’t wait to shoot some weddings that are close to my heart, especially if this weather holds out.

A pair of headshots, one theatrical, one professional.
A friend of mine from high school asked me to update his headshots, so we did a quick shoot at Howarth Park in Santa Rosa.

BART rider 1.

BART rider 2.
Another set of two similar-but-not-similar photos from my journey around San Francisco the other day – this time, both are of a very kind woman on BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) who allowed me to take her picture. Again, the difference between these shots boggles my mind and (I hope) makes me much more careful in terms of portrait timing. Each communicates a whole different feel – and all because of a slightly different body angle and miniscule expression change.

This is Robyn.
I went to high school with Robyn, and she asked me to do some photos of her, and I have a new light system to test, so we did a shoot in her backyard in Sebastopol.

The backyard is gorgeous. Her dad keeps bees.

Smoking.

I didn't want to post this one at first, because I didn't want to have too many of her smoking, but I got some good feedback on it.

This one's got a light feel, kind of the opposite of the first few. I used big strobes for those, and just a reflector for these last few shots.

Charles 1.

Charles 2.
I wandered around San Francisco yesterday. This is Charles. The difference between his expressions in these two shots, to me, is extraordinary. I have a similar pair of portraits that I’ll post just as soon as I get permission.
