Far West Fungi owners John and Toby Garrone brought a fantastic variety of mushrooms and guided the salon attendees through the mushroom cultivation process.

I used to hate mushrooms as a kid, except on pizza. I never pictured myself at a mushroom salon, but the event was incredible.

Afreen Wahab, of Cuisine Afreen, held a mushroom salon – an evening of mushroom discovery, cooking, and tasting, in her home in San Francisco last week. Far West Fungi owners John and Toby Garrone brought boxes of mushrooms, Afreen cooked, and we all enjoyed conversation and a glass or two of well paired wine.

Barley and Hops – Occidental Restaurant Photographer

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

Jen and I went to Barley and Hops, a great little restaurant in Occidental, CA, which is in west Sonoma County. This is the red snapper sandwich

My grandfather, at dinner.

The Easy Leaves were playing some music - the bar's a little cramped, so we listened from outside.

My dad and my cousin.

Jen and I explored the town a bit, and checked out Negri's, which was supposed to have karaoke, but we came back to Barley and Hops for the music.

Mom and dad dancing.

Salt Point Mushroom Hunting

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

Yellow Foot mushrooms at Salt Point State Park, in Northern California.

Jen and I whipped a bunch of these into a risotto last night and it tasted foresty. We picked them with the Sonoma County Mycological Association – check out their site here: http://www.somamushrooms.org/

Red velvet cake.

I did a shoot a couple of weeks ago for David Benton, of Sugarsweet Pastries, a couple of weeks ago and am just now getting around to posting them. I’ll be adding to this post during the next day or two, so be sure to check back to see more of these delicious desserts!

Lemon tart.

Lemon tart and chocolate cake.

A bee wandered into the red velvet cake shoot.

A berry tart.

This is the last photo we took. Something different for me on a food shoot - I love it.

Thursday, February 4th, 2010

A composed cheese course prepared by Catering Chef Scott Ritchie, of Wente Vineyards.

I’ve been so busy editing I haven’t had time to post anything lately. I’ve got some really neat photos that I’ll be posting soon. This composed cheese course is from a few months ago, a foodie wedding that I shot with Julie of http://www.jklifestories.com/

Fingerling Potatoes

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

Fingerling potatoes with radishes and peppers.

I did a quick shoot with a chef in San Francisco the other day – this was one of the results. I’m in Chicago to shoot a wedding this weekend, and it’s cold, and this picture makes me warm.
